- Invent, advance and patent technologies based on nanoscience and micro-engineered materials
- Recruit and engage a broad-based interdisciplinary faculty with synergistic expertise
- Provide senior faculty mentorship to foster the development of our junior faculty
- Grow its research program funding from government, industry, foundation and private sources
- Maintain and improve our large dollar, high value, equipment that serves our research constituency
- Carefully evaluate and improve the facilities and staffing needs that support our characterization capabilities
